Collins discloses eCommerce project About You

After three years of development, Project Collins disclosed it’s long running secret project named About You (caution: video only in German). Under the management of Benjamin Otto, son of executive chairman Walter Otto and grandson of Otto-founder Werner Otto, the team of Project Collins developed not only an online fashion shop but an open commerce platform.

Next to more than 50.000 products, customers can find a bunch of apps helping them to find the best styles and outfits. These apps are not created by About You, but by any developer who wants to. They can use the development center to create own apps and implement them in the shop. If an app is accepted by About You, the developer will earn money from every sale made using his app.

Furthermore, About You is learning from every click their customer make and is therefore able to adapt its suggested products to the affection of its customer.

I think the project looks very promising. Often, online shopping is dreary and no fun at all. Some shops I know had great ways of showing their products in a lively, inspiring way, but haven’t had the guts or perhaps the resources to follow that path. What Collins does with About You is to make online shopping a fun experience with inspiring and – above all – individual ideas where customers feel like the shop’s only made for themselves.
