Yesterday, Google officially announced a new ad format for the Google Display Network (GDN).
Although Google recommends to enable both text and display for publisher’s ad units, some only have display enabled – most probably because text ads don’t look fancy enough within a website. That’s why Google has created the new ad format “magazine ads”.
From now on, text advertisers can compete on display-only ad units. If a text advertiser is the winning bidder for a display-only ad unit, the text ad will appear in the magazine ad format to maintain the aesthetic demand for display.
Magazine ads will appear automatically if a publisher has display-only enabled. However, you can still disable magazine ads through the enhanced display option within AdSense. Also, the Ad Review Center will still show the original text ad instead of the magazine ad.
