Yahoo Reaches Search Deal with Google After Loosening Microsoft Ties

Yahoo recently announced a new deal with Google that will allow Yahoo to display Google search results on their sites. Under the new arrangement, Google will provide web search results, search ads and image search services for an unspecified number of Yahoo user queries, on both desktop and mobile platforms. This could be seen as a surprising move, given the deal already in place between Yahoo and Bing. However, Yahoo recently revised its longtime Microsoft search pact to state that Yahoo will have the ability to use alternative services. Therefore, the non-exclusive deal allows Yahoo to continue working with Microsoft, as well.


Over Half of Google Searches Come from Mobile



At the recent Recode Code/Mobile conference, Amit Singhal, senior vice president of Google Search, announced that over half of the 100 billion searches conducted on Google each month now come from mobile devices. The figures do not include any devices with screens bigger than 6 inches (such as tablets). He went on to explain that the way in which we interact with computing is changing, and so is the way we search.

“Search as we think about it is fundamentally how you will interact with computing,” Singhal said. “Computing may live in a 4-to-6-inch device, it may live in a desktop, it may live on a 1-inch round device.”
