What’s new in Bing Ads this May?

Actually, I want to give you a short overview of what’s new in Bing Ads this May. But before I’ll write about the end of support for Internet Explorer 8, 24/7 online chat and much more, I’d like to mention Bing’s plan to bring together desktop and tablet traffic – just like Google’s Enhanced Campaigns do. David Pann, General Manager for the Search Network at Microsoft, said:

“After much analysis and feedback, what we’ve found is that flexibility also means more complexity for many of our customers. The balance between flexibility and complexity is a moving target, but something we always strive to find. As a result, we’ve decided to change how Bing Ads handles device targeting. These changes will make it easier and more efficient for customers to manage their campaigns.

With this update, we’ll have complete compatibility with how ad campaigns are managed within Bing Ads and Google AdWords, simplifying campaign management between platforms.”

So let’s get on with the actual topic and talk about what’s new in Bing Ads this May.

End of support for Internet Explorer 8
While Google AdWords drops support for IE9, Bing ends its support for Internet Explorer 8. Although you will still be able to log on and use Bing Ads with Internet Explorer 8, bugs specific to Internet Explorer 8 will no longer be addressed. Bing recommends to upgrade to a more recent version of Internet Explorer (right now that’s IE11)!

New geographical location report
Bing created a new version of the geo location report. The new version comes with a single set of locations and a location type field to give you insight into the type of location that was used to serve your ads. The old version is still available.

Favicons come to Bing Ads
You know Favicons, right? The small images associated with your website that are shown beside your display URL. Those small images now appear within your ad to attract even more clicks with no additional cost to you.

24/7 online chat coming soon
From May on, Bing will provide 24/7 online chat to answer all your questions. Whether you have a billing issue, want to improve campaign performance or need help adding Sitelink Extensions to get more clicks, Bing Ads is ready to help all day, every day. Right now this service is only available in English within the following countries: Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, India, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Vietnam. I’m sure this will also be available in German any time soon.

View 50,000 keywords
In the past you would need to narrow your scope when viewing campaigns or ad groups that contained more than 5,000 keywords. Bing changed that. From now on you can view up to 50,000 keywords – performance improvements included.

More help when and where you need it
Bing has added help to the column headings on most Campaigns tabs. If there is a question mark icon, you can click on that to get information on what each column means and why it’s important to the success of your advertising campaign.

Keep your settings everywhere, every time
From now one, your settings in Bing Ads (e.g. showing your favorite columns on each page or the right number of rows) will stay the same no matter where you log in to Bing Ads or which device you use.
