IE 9 – Microsoft for the first time not late for the party

Microsoft has released a preview version of the IE9. According to their own benchmarks it rivals both Firefox 3.6 and the 3.7 Alpha 2 in Javascript execution speed (the WebKit SunSpider test). This is great news for companies that develop RIAs based on Javascript (like us)! Moreover, it adds initial support for HTML5 and CSS3. Of course Chrome, the first browser to really take on Javascript execution speed, is miles ahead of the IE9 with almost twice the speed, but it seems that Microsoft is taking on that challenge.

Great times for the Web to come!

Oh, and Microsoft: Please ditch Silverlight 😉
